Medtronic is looking for a Mechanical R&D Engineer for their Research and Technology department at the Bakken Research Center, to be located in Maastricht.

Most of BRC’s 325 employees are designing and managing clinical studies, generating data for regulatory and reimbursement dossiers in Europe, Japan and the USA as well as generating scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. The Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm & Heart Failure (CRHF) division is represented at the BRC by three departments: Clinical Research, Clinical Operations, and Research & Technology. The Cardiovascular activities at BRC are also structured in three departments: Coronary Vascular, Endovascular and Structural Heart Disease. CRHF Clinical Operations provides biostatistical and monitoring support to clinical groups also outside the BRC.
A Day in the Life
We offer you a position in the research and technology department at the Medtronic Bakken Research Center. This department consists of a team of highly educated experienced scientists, engineers and technicians with varying background and multidisciplinary education. You will report into the Mechanical Engineering/R&D group of this department. The focal area of your work involves mechanical design of implantable medical devices for a variety of applications, like stimulation treatment in cardiac and neurologic areas. Part of the job is also designing, developing, analyzing, troubleshooting and performing technical tasks during research and/or product development. You consult with external and internal clients to learn about their unmet needs and come up with innovative solutions. You recommend product requirements as well as possible product implementations.
- Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering;
- Preferable 2 to 10 years of relevant working experience. We encourage people with more experience to apply as well;
- Experience in a high tech quality controlled environment preferably within medical devices is a pre. Experience with AIMD and ISO 13485 is a pre;
- Experience with numerical modeling and Creo is a pre.

You are a self-starter with good analytical skills and are able to develop your critical thinking skills, clinical knowledge and new technology expertise. As you will work in a team with other support staff, engineers and technicians, you have to dispose of good communication skills and a team player attitude. Besides the ability to manage multiple tasks you dispose of good problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail and accuracy. You are able to get an overview of complete systems and can zoom into details if needed. You are used to take initiative and you demonstrate the ability to work effectively to meet the deadlines. You have a can-do attitude and are pro-active on cross-functional teams. You are a good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking. You are positive, enthusiastic and flexible. You have an open-minded attitude and are eager to explore new areas.
