Discover the world of industry

Chemelot consist of the Chemelot Industrial Park and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. Here’s all you need to know about Chemelot and Brightlands.

There is a significant difference between Chemelot and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. At the Chemelot site, you’ll find the Chemelot Industrial Park at one side, and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus at the other side. Both houses companies that specialise in the field of materials and chemistry.

What makes Chemelot unique

Chemelot stands for a chemically oriented area of more than 800 hectares in South Limburg. The site is unique, because of:

  • The central location in South Limburg
  • Easily accessible with a connection to the highway, the railroad, pipelines and an airport
  • The presence of a large number of factories that are complementary to each other
  • The umbrella license
  • The unique research and development facilities, like factories and pilot plants
  • Central facilities such as utilities, fire brigade, maintenance, company emergency organization and safety regulations
  • A strong and diverse material and life sciences community

The infrastructure at Chemelot, it has its own port with excellent connection to neighboring seaports and rail terminal, the chemical cluster is right next to the main road network and pipelines. Chemelot connects directly with Antwerp, Rotterdam and the Rhine-Ruhr area (the so-called ARRRA cluster).

The combination of Chemelot Industrial Park and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus is key. Companies such as SABIC, Arlanxeo and DSM produce their products in the Chemelot Industrial Park and develop sustainable products and materials in their research facilities on campus. Think of anti-reflective coatings for solar panels and lightweight materials for the automotive industry.

Chemelot’s mission

Chemelot is also the name of the central organization that is responsible for the Chemelot Industrial Park and the campus environmental regulations compliance and public relations, communicating with potential residents of the site, citizens living nearby and the authorities.

Chemelot is designed upon one central idea: to bring together the knowledge and skills normally found only in major organizations, and to apply these within a flexible community of small and large chemical businesses, radically changing the view of the chemical industry. A growing environment for the economy and working space, in 2025 belonging to the world top of chemistry and new materials.
