Working together on innovation
Brightlands’ brand stands for an open public-private partnership between companies, knowledge institutes and government in Limburg, based on the theme of knowledge crossing borders.
Brightlands has been made possible thanks to a partnership between the Province of Limburg, Maastricht University, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Fontys University of Applied Sciences together with APG, BASF, DSM and Maastricht UMC+. Brightlands is supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, private companies and various European, national and local public funds and municipalities. It is a partnership that goes beyond geographical, organizational and scientific borders.
This triple helix collaboration is the engine driving an attractive innovation climate. Brightlands’ foundation lies at the four campuses: Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen, Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus, Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen and Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo.
Each Brightlands campus has three shareholders, and the Province of Limburg and Maastricht University are shareholders in all four of the Brightlands campuses. The Province of Limburg is investing tens of millions of Euros in Brightlands with the aim of continuing to connect companies and talented people to the region and attract new business activity and promising talent. As the most important knowledge partner at the campuses, Maastricht University invests in new programs, research institutes and in attracting and retaining talent for the region.
The other shareholders form an important link with the market and are associated with one of the Brightlands campuses with their own specific objectives. These shareholders and their campuses are: Maastricht UMC+ and Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus; DSM and Brightlands Chemelot Campus; APG and Brightlands Smart Services Campus; and BASF and Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo.
