Netherlands-Wallonia Economic DayEvent date: February 21, 201710:00u
End date: February 21, 2017
Would you like to do business in or expand your business into Wallonia or the Netherlands? And do you work in the biotechnology (life sciences & health), bio-based economy or logistics sector? If so, come to the Netherlands-Wallonia Economic Day on 21 February 2017, where you will learn about what these regions have to offer and meet potential partners.
The Netherlands-Wallonia Economic Day is being organised as part of a two-day visit to Wallonia by the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen. It offers a unique opportunity to meet Dutch and Walloon entrepreneurs and their representatives, and share experiences.
Wallonia is an interesting region for Dutch companies: it is close-by and has a well-educated population and a consumer market of 3.6 million people. The Dutch regions of North Brabant and Limburg are both gateways to the Netherlands and offer an attractive consumer market for Walloon companies.
In the biotechnology field, there are opportunities for cooperation in proton therapy, regenerative medicine, medical devices and imaging. In the bio-based economy sector, there are opportunities in fields like nanomaterials and plastics recycling. There are also plenty of opportunities for the logistics sector thanks to the excellent connections between the Netherlands, Wallonia and the rest of Europe by road, rail, water and air.
The Netherlands is the third-biggest exporter to Wallonia. In 2015 its exports were worth €4.6 billion, accounting for 13 to 14% of Walloon imports. The Netherlands is also Wallonia’s third-biggest customer. In 2015 Wallonia exported €3.3 billion worth of goods to the Netherlands, or 8 to 9% of Walloon exports.
