Brightlands Science Lecture: The ADMET Story by Ken WagenerEvent date: February 17, 202012:00u
End date: February 17, 2020
The story begins with Ken Wagener’s oral examination for the PhD degree at Florida which included metathesis chemistry, a time when “metathesis” was just being explored in the literature. High polymer could not be formed by diene condensation. The ADMET (acyclic diene metathesis) story tells how that problem of low molecular weight was overcome, then leads into mechanism, polyolefins containing functional groups, and structure analysis by this approach.
It concludes with the latest work, bulk metathesis polycondensation at high temperatures, up to 175 C, reducing reaction time from as long as 5 days to now, 3 hours.
