How can innovation in nutrition help to improve the wellbeing of the growing and ageing population in the world? With a growing and ageing population worldwide, the importance of healthy nutrition is of paramount importance. The impact of technology requires a cross-sector knowledge exchange and cooperation. This conference brings the food industry, retailers, foodservice providers, government and those working in nutrition, together to enable collaboration and innovation and to support a sustainable healthy nutrition landscape for the future.

Health claims on foods – when can you use them?

Alie de Boer, Researcher & Teacher at Maastricht University Campus Venlo explains:

Already since 2006, European law regulates which voluntary statements about healthiness can be made on food products. After more than 10 years, this regulation is still controversial and it is unclear whether it reaches it goals: protect consumers from misleading and stimulate innovation. In this presentation, an overview of the regulation and its consequences will be given, and hands-on information will be provided on how to use claims on foods.

This currently involves bachelor- and master study programmes at a university satellite location. In the new researchcentre, knowledge obtained in the biomedical research facilities at the Maastricht campus will be combined with innovations in the food- and agriculture sectors.
