Worldwide, 130 million people suffer from Hashimoto’s disease. In the Netherlands, 2% of the population has officially been diagnosed with this autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the thyroid gland. Originally hailing from Bulgaria, Dr. Anna Huysse is a psychotherapist, researcher, entrepreneur and, as a patient, has first-hand experience with the disease. Based at Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus, she is fully dedicated to Hashimoto.help, a platform for patients and those who are believed to have the disease. The website is chock full of information, questionnaires, tips, blogs and webinars, research and research results, and answers to frequently asked questions. The goal is for Hashimoto.help to offer a complete portfolio of services within the next five years. By then, the Hashimoto’s Voice research project is expected to be completed to facilitate early detection of the disease via voice recognition.
