During the Vanguard Initiative (VI) in early 2017, the idea arose to set up a new pilot project involving the MEDTECH theme. The Interreg Europeproject MedTech4Europe was created for this purpose, together with the European regions that show the greatest potential in this area.
Within the Southern Netherlands partnership of the OP Zuid program, the underlying Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3) and the activities of the VI, Limburg has gotten the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus involved in making a full commitment to this project based on its strengths in this area. The project application received final approval in May 2018 from the Interreg Europe Supervisory Committee; the parties can now effectively start the implementation of the project.
It is intended that the RIS3 and OP South Program in relation to MEDTECH, the Limburg Brightlands campuses and knowledge between European partners on that central to this project. Our Bright Lands campuses, research institutes and industry will also emphatically have a role in the project in a yet to be established regional stakeholder group. The content of the project in line with the coalition goals on strengthening and internationalization of Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus. Europe is a European Interreg subdisieprogramma tailor made for the regions of Europe, because the influence of a policy should be central in this case OP South and RIS3. It is planned that recommendations come from the project, coming from a European context, and have best practices that will influence the final design of the next OP South Netherlands.
Best MEDTECH regions of Europe join forces in this project. Besides Limburg and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (FR), Steinbeis will Baden-Württemberg (DE), Lombardy (IT), Helsinki Region (FI), Copenhagen Capital Region (DK), GAPR from Upper Silesia (PL) and stria out Hungary rotate as partners in the project.
Within the project, the partners will jointly analyze the current situation regarding cooperation in the Medtech sector, investment, involvement of SMEs and the level of specialization for each campus. Then the links with regional decision-making and operational programs are scrutinized and then there are recommendations and lessons linked from other regions to achieve the effect of regional policy for the period ahead on this issue. The Province of Limburg will therefore regularly stakeholder meetings to organize the campuses (Brightlands Chemelot Campus and Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus), together with the relevant research stins counts (MERLIN, LINK), companies and large projects (REGMEDXB) are involved.
