Aachen Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials

Aachen Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM) is a cross-border cooperation between Maastricht University and RWTH Aachen. AMIBM’s goal is to create a link between research—whether basic or applied—and the market in bio-based materials. It aims to do this by changing the relationship between the production of bio-based materials and the value chain.

The AMIBM aims to achieve this by developing an integrated, interdisciplinary research program. It focuses on new strategies to produce advanced bio-based materials sustainably and economically. It also emphasizes the development of these novel materials into innovative products with high added value for technical and medical applications. The AMIBM offers a unique approach covering the entire bio-based materials value chain including raw materials (such as feedstock), polymers (materials) and the end products derived from them (applications). Applications include bio-based materials for medicine, environmental protection and industrial applications.
